Program Coordinator - Health Care Assistant Program

Job description and duties

Coast Mountain College (CMTN) invites applications for a term Program Coordinator for the Health Care Assistant program commencing as soon as possible and ending September 10, 2021 for 17.5 hours per week. Salary will be in accordance with the BCGEU Instructor Scale.

Duties: Based in Smithers, Terrace, or Prince Rupert, this position will work closely with the Dean, Associate Dean, and instructor(s), to ensure program evolution and play a lead role in ensuring program quality, effectiveness, efficiency, and student success. The program will be delivered in Smithers, Terrace, Kitimat, and Prince Rupert.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Instructor hiring and scheduling

  • Budget development / maintenance

  • Program and curriculum development

  • Educational liaison and articulation

  • Student recruitment/retention and advocacy, community outreach, and program promotion

  • All other related duties of similar scope and complexity


  • Current BC registration as an LPN, RN or RPN

  • Demonstrated ability to supervise the discipline

  • 3 – 5 years of recent and relevant practice experience including clinical experience as well as instructional experience

  • Additional post-secondary education in teaching (i.e. A Master’s in Adult Education, a Provincial Teaching Certificate, a Provincial Instructor’s Diploma) is an asset

  • A valid Class 5 Driver’s license

  • Knowledge and enthusiasm for the characteristics of our strategic plan (adventurous, transformative, and integrity) and the demonstrated ability to apply them to teaching

The successful applicant will possess a broad range of content knowledge, confidence and experience in the subject areas. As a team player and learner-centered instructor, experience should demonstrate excellent group facilitation, communication and interpersonal skills. A commitment to student success is required, along with a demonstrated ability to foster a motivational learning environment for a diverse student base.
