Exam Invigilator - Workforce Training / Contract Services

Job description and duties

Coast Mountain College (CMTN) invites applications for non-regular, on-call Exam Invigilator positions in the Workforce Training/Contract Services (WTCS) department at all campuses. The appointments will commence as soon as possible and end August 31, 2022.  A flexible schedule is required as some evening / weekend work will be required. Salary will be in accordance with the BCGEU Support Staff Scale, Level 3.

Duties:  This position will be responsible for invigilating/proctoring various types of exams, tests, and assessments for CMTN students, future students, and external clients. All Invigilators will be required to attend a mandatory two-hour orientation and training session. Assignments are short-term in nature (2-6 hours) and take place on campus.

Duties will include:

  • Prepare work station or desk area for exams

  • Provide exam instructions and assist the examinee as necessary

  • Actively invigilate throughout the exam

  • Provide accommodation as required, including reading or scribing

  • Collect completed exam and return to Assessment and Testing Centre office

Note: Candidates are requested to identify their preferred campus location.


Some post-secondary education and specific training to work on external exams along with experience working in the post-secondary sector with direct student contact. An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered. 

Required knowledge, skills, and abilities include:

  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of exam invigilation procedures, accommodations and access exams, and confidentiality and exam integrity

  • Excellent interpersonal and communications (written and oral) skills with the ability to provide a calm and quiet test environment

  • Detail-oriented with the ability to set-up exams and manage timelines and various timers

  • Client-oriented with the ability to relay test instructions to examinees as well as clearly read and/or scribe for Accessibility students

  • Demonstrated knowledge of basic computer hardware and software with the ability to troubleshoot minor computer issues
