Guest speaker leads a discussion on local governance in a business course.
Northwest BC – “The new Business Administration – Open Studies option allows Coast Mountain College to better serve the needs of community members and local businesses.” says Heather Bastin, Executive Director of External Relations. “Rather than committing to a full diploma or certificate program, participants can choose just the courses that are most relevant to their goals.”
Topics available through Business Open Studies include accounting, marketing, economics, human resources, management, and more.
After completing a few courses, learners may decide that formal business studies are something they want to pursue further. If so, they can use their Open Studies credits to enter into a CMTN Business Administration Certificate or Diploma program or transfer the credits to a BC university and work their way toward a bachelor’s degree.
Open Studies courses are available at the Terrace, Smithers, and Prince Rupert campuses starting in September 2025. Registration is open now for the fall and winter semesters for the following.
Courses Starting in September 2025*
- Financial Accounting
- Business Computers
- Business Communications
- Microeconomics
- Mathematics of Finance
Courses Starting in January 2026*
- Canadian Business Law
- Macro Economics
- Business Ethics
- Introduction to Marketing
- Introduction to Management
* Additional second-year level courses are also available through Open Studies with permission of the coordinator, if the applicant already has enough work experience or training to support success. Those interested are encouraged to contact with the business program coordinator (rsantos@coastmountaincollege.ca) to discuss these options.
