Coast Mountain College (CMTN) will start a new academic year with new leadership as Dr. Laurie Waye steps in as Interim President on September 7, 2021, for a one-year term.
This follows the resignation of current CMTN President Justin Kohlman, who is moving on to a new role as President and CEO of Grande Prairie Regional College in Alberta.
Dr. Laurie Waye has been at Coast Mountain College since 2016 and in her current role of Vice President she oversees the College’s Academic and International departments. She has more than 25 years of involvement in teaching and learning.
“I am honoured to be selected by the Board to step into this role. Justin leaves big shoes to fill, and I will do my best to move Coast Mountain College’s strategic plan forward through this one-year term,” says Dr. Laurie Waye.
Before joining CMTN, Dr. Waye was Associate Director of the University of Victoria Learning and Teaching Centre and Adjunct Assistant Professor in the Gustavson School of Business. In this role, she coached faculty on assessment, assignment, and course design; lead a student academic support unit; taught; and, engaged in applied research, such as program evaluation, course reviews, and scholarship of teaching and learning.
Dr. Waye also has nine years of experience teaching in post-secondary institutions; she has taught writing, business communication, and education at New Zealand, Japanese, Canadian and American colleges and universities. She holds a doctorate in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Victoria, an MEd from Temple University, and a BA from the University of Victoria.
During the upcoming year Dr. Waye will be based at the Terrace campus and Coast Mountain College’s President position will be posted and a robust search conducted.
