Emergency bursaries for grocery gift cards fully subscribed

The Coast Mountain College and CMTN Foundation’s Student Emergency Bursary initiative that saw the distribution of $250 grocery gift cards to students impacted by COVID-19 has been fully subscribed. The bursaries were designed to address the immediate needs of students completing their current semester and who may have been impacted by COVID-19.

“In less than a week the bursary was fully subscribed by students from across the region we serve,” says CMTN Foundation CAO Brian Badge. “It tells us that there was a need and that students have been impacted by the current pandemic in many different ways.”

Half of the bursary funding came from money raised through the CMTN Employee Giving program and Coast mountain College which sees employees contribute on a monthly basis through payroll deductions, and through generous donations from our community members. The remaining funds came through the CMTN Foundation. 

“I am heartened that so many students were able to receive a little bit of support during this quickly-evolving situation,” says CMTN President Justin Kohlman. “We will continue to pursue innovative ways that we can continue to support our students as the COVID-19 pandemic response continues.”

A big thank-you to the all those staff involved with developing the initiative and distributing the cards – it was a big job in a very short period of time.

Spring intersession courses now open for registration

Kudos to our amazing team of instructors, incredible IT team and the folks at the CMTN Centre of Learning Transformation (COLT) for all their hard work in moving our students to a distributed learning model in such a short frame of time. As students wrap up this term, many are looking to intersession for a variety of courses offered through distributed learning. While the format is different than our usual experiential, place-based face-to-face offerings, these courses will connect students with our experienced, knowledgeable, and fun college instructors.

This spring, CMTN will be offering a number of accredited courses in topics such as: business, permaculture, geography, psychology, oceanography and criminology through distributed learning opportunities. Students can take courses for professional development, university transfer credits or as dual credit for high school students. Feel free to share the following link with prospective students interested in our UC and Business offerings this spring:
