Terrace, BC – Coast Mountain College (CMTN) is proud to announce the installation of a new, state-of-the-art training tool in the nursing lab on CMTN’s Terrace campus. The PyxisTM MedStationTM is an innovative, automatic system for dispensing medications in a hospital or pharmacy setting. It is designed to minimize disruptions, delays, and the risk of medication error.

This MedStationTM in the CMTN nursing lab, the only one in a northern BC post-secondary institution, gives students a chance to practise using it before entering the workforce. Like many hospitals where nursing students are likely to work, the currently under-construction Mills Memorial Hospital replacement in Terrace will use the MedStationTM

“The PxyisTM MedStationTM addition to the nursing lab increases the learning opportunities and better prepares our students by giving them the opportunity to work with the latest available technology,” says Yvonne Koerner, Executive Director of the CMTN Foundation

The MedStationTM has features that prevent dispensing an incorrect medication or dosage and can track a patient’s prescriptions over time and across hospital units. It also has active alerts as an additional safety precaution for high-risk medications.

Funds for the PyxisTM MedStationTM were raised through the CMTN Foundation, with a total of over $63,000 received from donors.
