Coast Mountain College (CMTN), Terrace campus, invites applications for a non-regular 80% Instructor in the Freda Diesing School of Northwest Coast Art. The appointment will be commencing August 25, 2025, and end April 30, 2026 (subject to a leave).  Salary will be in accordance with the BCGEU Instructor Scale, ranging from $37.55 to $66.37

Duties:  The instructor(s) will be responsible for ensuring student success in the First Nations Fine Arts program.  This includes course preparation, teaching and guiding students, providing feedback, correction, encouragement, and direction. In addition, the instructor will oversee and ensure safety, complete the related administrative, record keeping and monitoring activities as well as other related duties as required to teach First Nations Fine Arts courses.

Qualifications

Master carver or established artist preferred, mid-career artist may be considered. A minimum of 10 years of experience as a successful market artist. Demonstrated and recent experience in exhibition and curation. Experience collaborating with galleries and museums

Strong commitment to the revitalization of NW Coast Art and experience teaching and mentoring adult learners

Required knowledge/skills include:

  • Demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching with the ability to motivate and mentor learners of all ages
  • Knowledge and enthusiasm for the best practices in equity, diversity, and inclusion in the classroom
  • Ability to function effectively across cultures, particularly with the Indigenous communities
  • Advanced knowledge in subject area
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal and communication (written & verbal) skills.
