Coast Mountain College (CMTN), Terrace campus, invites applications for a full-time term Science Lab Technician commencing August 25, 2025, and ending December 19, 2025. (subject to a leave). Salary will be in accordance with the BCGEU Support Staff Salary Scale, Level 13: $2,747.50 biweekly plus pay in lieu of vacation and benefits.

Duties: The Lab Technician assists faculty with the operation of the science laboratories, including preparing and maintaining lab equipment and materials and chemicals for students’ use in the lab as directed by the appropriate faculty member.
Duties include but are not limited to the following:
- Acts as a resource person for the Lab Planning Committee.
- Maintaining the stock of equipment, materials, chemicals, and collections in the lab.
- Orders lab supplies and capital purchases in accordance with the approved annual supplies budget approved by the College.
- Set-up and take down labs as required during throughout the semester
- Providing instruction to lab users on the proper handling of equipment and hazardous materials and in WHMIS and safety procedures.
- Keeping current on safety regulations, overseeing the safe storage of chemical and other hazardous materials, and overseeing the collection and disposal of waste materials according to regulation.
- Prepares microorganisms and animal cultures, grows and collects cultures, samples, solutions and specimens, and preserves specimens for displays and collections.
- Maintain museum collections in rocks, fossils, herbarium, invertebrates and vertebrates and other science lab collections.
- Maintains, calibrates, and repairs lab equipment such as microscopes, pH meters, and spectroscopes, and arranges for repairs as needed and in accordance with the budget.
- Providing the College with WHMIS inventory, monitoring, and labeling education for the Science labs in Terrace.
- Conducts inventory of all hazardous materials and compiles information on computer database, adding new products as received.
- Coordinate and physically performs annual inventory and make recommendations on disposal of inventory items.
- Contact manufacturers, suppliers and other databases to obtain current WHMIS compliant MSDS sheets.
- Acts as WHMIS resource person for the whole College in emergency situations involving hazardous materials.
