Terrace, BC - Coast Mountain College (CMTN) students in the Hairstylist Foundation Program will now receive a certificate as a Sustainable Beauty Professional when they complete the program.
CMTN’s Salon is pleased to announce that they have become a “Green Circle” Salon.
Green Circle is the only comprehensive recycling initiative for the beauty industry in North America. The award-winning program empowers salons to offset their emissions and recover up to 95% of their beauty waste, including previously unrecoverable materials and hard-to-recycle items like hair clippings, foils, excess hair colour, aerosol cans, and colour tubes.
Certified salons divert most of these materials from local landfills and waterways, instead to be recycled and repurposed at recycling facilities, chemical waste facilities, clean energy producers, bio-composite plastic producers and more.
"Becoming a part of the Green Circle Salon community is an exciting milestone for the student salon. As a salon professional, it has become apparent we must become more sustainable as an industry in managing our waste,” says Hairstylist Instructor Danna Buick. “This is something we can do as professionals to be future-focused and sustainable.”
“CMTN students will complete their program with first-hand experience of how they influence and practice social and environmental responsibility through their work.”
In addition to the collection bins made from recovered hair and recycled plastic, the Hairstylist students will soon be receiving cutting combs made from the same material, making their tools more sustainable.
The Salon is open to the public by appointment. Contact Danna Buick at firstname.lastname@example.org or call the Salon at 250.635.4217 for more information.
