Substitute Instructor (On-call) - Link to Employment & Academic Pathways (Terrace)

Job description and duties

Coast Mountain College (CMTN), Terrace Campus, invites applications for non-regular, on-call Substitute Instructor positions in the Workplace Skills Training (WST) program for students with diverse learning needs. The appointments will commence as soon as possible and end May 22, 2026 on an as required basis.  Salary will be in accordance BCGEU Instructor Salary Scale.

Duties:  Provide back-up coverage for the regular instructors. Responsibilities include facilitating learning for students in WST program ensuring successful completion of courses. This includes course preparation, teaching and guiding students as well as completing the related administrative, record keeping and monitoring activities.

This program prepares students with barriers to employment for entry-level positions in local industry and introduces student to the college environment. Students explore their interests and aptitudes while developing social, interpersonal and practical skills needed in the workplace.

Qualifications

Qualifications: A degree in Education or Social Work along with experience working with adults with cognitive disabilities in an educational setting. An equivalent combination of education, skills and extensive experience may be considered.

  • Demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching with the ability to motivate and mentor students
  • Knowledge and enthusiasm for the best practices in equity, diversity, and inclusion in the classroom
  • Ability to function effectively across cultures, particularly with the Indigenous communities
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal and communication (written & oral) skills
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and use discretion in dealing with student records
  • Demonstrated ability to work efficiently and accurately in a team environment
  • Demonstrated ability to promote and foster independence in students
  • A valid B.C. driver’s license (with a clean drivers abstract)
