Adult Upgrading Substitute Instructor(s)- On-call

Coast Mountain College (CMTN), Terrace, Prince Rupert and Smithers Campus invite applications for non-regular, on-call Substitute Instructor positions in the Adult Upgrading programs. The appointments will commence as soon as possible and end April 24, 2026, on an as on- call basis, as required.  Salary will be in accordance BCGEU Instructor Salary Scale.

Duties:  The substitute Instructor will provide coverage for instructor led courses in all subject areas and levels. The instructors are responsible to facilitate learning for students, ensuring successful completion of English, Science and Math and Electives courses. This includes course preparation, teaching and guiding students as well as completing the related administrative, record keeping and monitoring activities. Delivery modes may be either face-to-face or online.

Qualifications

  • A bachelor's degree in a directly related discipline
  • A Provincial Teaching Certificate or a Provincial Instructor's Diploma is preferred
  • A master’s degree in a related discipline or in Adult Education is preferred
  • Teaching experience in an Adult Basic Education / Adult Upgrading is preferred
  • Demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching with the ability to motivate and mentor learners of all ages
  • Knowledge and enthusiasm for the best practices in equity, diversity, and inclusion in the classroom
  • Ability to function effectively across cultures, particularly with the Indigenous communities, is an asset
  • An equivalent combination of experience and education may be considered

The successful applicant will possess a broad range of content knowledge, confidence and experience in the subject areas. As a team player and learner-centered instructor, experience should demonstrate excellent group facilitation, communication and interpersonal skills.
