Cook's Helper Instructor (Terrace/Smithers)

Coast Mountain College (CMTN) invites applications for a term Instructor for the Cook’s Helper Program. Salary will be in accordance with the BCGEU Instructor salary scale ($37.55 - $53.80 per hour). While this position will be based in Terrace/Smithers, the instructor will be required to travel to Witset to deliver the course.

Course term: November 30, 2026 to March 12, 2027 - 420 hours delivered in Witset

Duties: The Instructor will facilitate learning in the theoretical techniques and skills of the Cook’s Helper Program in a community setting with a mixed class of adult learners. This includes course preparation, teaching and guiding students, providing feedback, correction, encouragement, and direction. In addition, the instructor will oversee and ensure site safety, complete the related administrative, record keeping and monitoring activities as well as other related duties as required. The curriculum of this program is based on the National Occupational Standards for Line Cook and Kitchen Helper positions.

Qualifications

Qualification/Skills: An Inter-provincial Red Seal Certificate and Food Safe along with five years hospitality industry experience as a chef. Preferred certificates and experience include a Provincial Instructional Diploma (PID) and a minimum of three years post-secondary instructional experience teaching Professional Cook Level 1.

Required skills, abilities and knowledge include:

  • A valid Class 5 Driver’s license
  • Criminal record Check Required
  • Demonstrated enthusiasm and commitment to excellence in teaching with the ability to inspire and mentor learners of all ages
  • Knowledge and passion for the best practices in equity, diversity, and inclusion in the classroom
  • Effective cross-cultural communication skills, particularly with the local Indigenous communities
  • Demonstrated ability to work efficiently and accurately in a collaborative team environment
  • Excellent organizational, communication and facilitation skills
  • Intermediate computer skills (word processing, excel, email)
