Field Technician - Term - REVISED (Prince Rupert or Terrace Campus)

Job description and duties

Coast Mountain College (CMTN) invites applications for a term 50% Field Technician. The appointment will commence June 1, 2024 and end August 31, 2024.  This position requires a flexible schedule, as some evening/weekend work and travel will be required.   Salary will be in accordance with the BCGEU Support Staff level 6.

The Field Technician will support the organization and successful delivery of multiple field schools throughout the college region. This position will include transporting students and attending over-night and multi-night field trips. This position can be based at the Terrace or Prince Rupert campus.

Tasks will include:

  • Provide administrative support for field schools
  • Assist with set-up and maintenance of teaching equipment and field gear, ensuring gear is well organized
  • Assist with delivery of lessons and activities and provide students with tutorial/academic support and encouragement
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations and procedures
  • Demonstrate equipment use and specifics in procedure as required
  • Prepare and maintain an inventory list of equipment and gear for field schools and ensure proper storage
  • All other related duties of similar scope and complexity

Qualifications

A minimum of Grade 12 (or equivalent) plus one year of post-secondary education along with related work experience. First Aid and WHMIS certification or training will be considered an asset.  An equivalent combination of training and experience will be considered. Appropriate training may be offered.

  • Proficient computer skills (MS Office, Internet, email)
  • Detail oriented with excellent organizational skills to effectively and efficiently manage multiple demands
  • Diligent attention to safety and safe work procedures
  • Intuitive and service oriented with exceptional interpersonal and relationship-building skills
  • Ability to function effectively across cultures, particularly with the Indigenous communities, demonstrating enthusiasm for equity, diversity, and inclusion
  • Persuasive and engaging communication skills with an ability to clearly express ideas and deliver captivating and dynamic presentations
  • Well-developed critical thinking, analytical and problem-solving skills
  • The ability to lift and move heavy/bulky items weighing up to 40lbs or more
  • Minimum of a Class 5 driver’s license required, Class 4 license preferred in order to drive the field school bus
