Coast Mountain College (CMTN), Terrace Campus, invites applications for a continuing full-time (35 hours/week) Health Lab Assistant in the Health programs, commencing April 15, 2024.  This position requires a flexible schedule as some evening and weekend work may be required as well as some travel.   Salary will be in accordance with the BCGEU Support Staff level 8 (under review): $2,207.10 bi-weekly plus a comprehensive benefit plan.

Duties:  Under the direction of Program Faculty and the Program Coordinator, this position will assist and support faculty in the teaching and supervision of students in the nursing lab and clinical placements and assist with the operation and maintenance of the nursing lab at the Terrace campus for Health programs and at other nursing lab sites in the region (as required).

Tasks will include:

  • Assisting with supervision of students and monitoring student activities in the lab
  • Demonstrating equipment use and specifics in procedure and lab material
  • Providing immediate response to lab emergencies for safety and equipment (sharps, eye care, MSI)
  • Maintaining currency of policy and procedure manuals from Northern Health Authority
  • Ensuring labs are maintained in good order
  • Preparing and maintaining an inventory list for the labs, collaborating with Program Coordinators to determine inventory needs
  • Inputting requisitions received from faculty for clinical placements in HSPNet and collating/confirming clinical practice requirements are met (SPECO, etc.)
  • Working with managers and health coordinators to support program accreditation work with BCCNP (e.g. HCA and PN programs) as well as CRNBC, CASN and others
  • Supporting regional program delivery (i.e.: lab inventory, lab set-up, etc.)
All other related duties of similar scope and complexity

Qualifications

Minimum qualifications include a 1-2 year diploma in Health Sciences (i.e. Nursing, Kinesiology, Physiotherapy, or Health Care Assistant; current BC registration as a LPN, RN, or PRN is preferred) as well as recent experience working in an educational institution nursing, lab and/or clinical setting.  The successful candidate must have recent knowledge of WHMIS and safety procedures. They must be adaptable, flexible and comfortable with change and have excellent interpersonal and team skills.  An equivalent combination of experience and education will be considered.
