CMTN and Park University offer unique academic and athletic partnership

Oct 24, 2018

Park_LogoTERRACE, BC – Park University, in conjunction with Coast Mountain College (CMTN), has announced a new academic and athletic partnership for students from Northern British Columbia.

Six student athletes who play high level soccer, basketball or volleyball in grades 10 and 11 will be selected by Park University coaches to come to Kansas City from March 21-24, 2019.  Park University will supply free accommodation, transportation in Kansas City, tickets to events, and some meals during the three days. Selected students will be responsible for transportation costs to and from Kansas City.

During their time at Kansas City, the students will be evaluated by professional coaches, participate in classes at Park University, stay in residences and take part in extra curricular events in the region. The students will also be put on the watch list by the coaches and potentially offered sports scholarships to continue their studies in Kansas City.

“Based upon what I saw during my first visit it seems there are a number of high quality student athletes in the region who would be a good fit for our academic partnership program with Coast Mountain College,” said Senior Director of International Education, Kevin Vicker. “We hope this opportunity would help students from the region get the opportunity early in their academic career to see what is available to them.”

The selected students will also be given the opportunity to take dual credit courses at Coast Mountain College while still in high school to make a seamless transition to Park University.

“Working with the college, we hope to continue expanding dual credit offerings to our students so they can make the transition to any university or college, including Park University,” said Geoff McKay.

“We are very excited to support this Park University opportunity,” said Justin Kohlman, Provost and Vice President, Academic Affairs at CMTN. “We believe in providing adventurous pathways to our students, whether they want to work or study anywhere in the world.”

Park University is a private non-profit university located in Parkville, Mo, a historic town on the banks of the Missouri River, just minutes from Kansas City. The Park Pirates are part of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics. Starting in 2019-20, Park University will be expanding its sports teams to include the Park Buccaneers. The Buccaneers will play from a smaller Park University campus in Arizona.
